Business and Economics are two of the most popular A‑level subjects at Surbiton High School, with over 100 pupils studying them across the Sixth Form. Both subjects attract academically capable, motivated, and intellectually curious pupils who are eager to deepen their understanding of the theories that shape the world around them.
Outcomes across both departments are consistently excellent. Business delivers outstanding value added, resulting in strong A‑level performance year on year. Economics results are similarly impressive. A significant proportion of pupils continue their studies at highly regarded universities, with over 60% of Business pupils and 65% of Economics pupils progressing to Business‑ or Economics‑related degrees. Many secure places at Oxbridge, Russell Group institutions, and other UK top‑10 universities.
You will be joining a specialised and passionate team of three teachers across the two subjects, each bringing varied professional and academic backgrounds. What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will:
Deliver inspiring, well‑structured lessons that stretch and challenge pupils.
Foster a supportive, inclusive classroom environment built on trust, respect, and mutual encouragement.
Use strong subject knowledge and up‑to‑date pedagogy to help every pupil achieve their personal best.
Monitor progress, provide constructive feedback, and employ effective intervention strategies.
Contribute to the pastoral life of the school as a Form Tutor or Deputy Form Tutor.
Support pupils applying to Business‑ and Economics‑related university courses.
Play an active part in our vibrant co‑curricular programme, including clubs, competitions, investment challenges, extended reading groups and essay competitions.
Engage fully in professional development, benefiting from our strong CPD and ECT mentoring programme.
Who we’re looking for
You’re likely to:
Hold a good Honours degree in a relevant subject.
Have (or be working towards) a recognised teaching qualification; QTS is desirable but not essential.
Bring excellent subject knowledge and the ability to teach both subjects confidently at A‑level.
Communicate clearly, thoughtfully, and professionally with pupils, colleagues, and parents.
Be organised, reflective, adaptable, and committed to continuous development.
Bring warmth, integrity, and a positive, energetic attitude to everything you do.
