Surbiton High School is seeking an outstanding, enthusiastic and ambitious Head of Music to lead the Music Department within our Girls' Preparatory School. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher and leader to inspire a lifelong love of music, shape the strategic direction of music education across the Prep School, and further develop a flourishing programme of curricular and co-curricular musical opportunities.
The successful candidate will be an exceptional classroom practitioner with the ability to inspire young musicians from Reception to Year 6. They will lead a vibrant department, oversee a broad programme of performances and instrumental provision, and work collaboratively with the Director of Music, the Head of Music at the Boys' Preparatory School and our team of Visiting Music Teachers to deliver an outstanding musical experience for every pupil.
About the Department
Music is at the heart of life in the Girls' Preparatory School and plays a central role in our thriving school community. Pupils participate in a rich programme of musical activities including class concerts, coffee morning recitals, instrumental concerts, choral performances, productions and major school events. The department works closely with colleagues across both Prep Schools and the Senior School to deliver a range of collaborative musical experiences.
The Music Department benefits from exceptional support and resources, including a team of 22 Visiting Music Teachers, a Head of Instrumental Music, Principal Accompanist, and dedicated Music Teaching and Administrative Assistant. The School also offers instrumental programmes in Years 3 and 5, providing pupils with valuable opportunities to develop their musical talents and confidence from an early age.
