We are excited to be recruiting for an enthusiastic Teacher of Geography to join our thriving and highly successful Geography Department. The candidate appointed will have impressive subject knowledge and a desire to be part of a team of committed professionals within the Department and the whole school.
The Role and Department:
The Geography Department currently consists of six full time teachers and three teachers who hold senior leadership positions.
Geography is taught throughout the school and is a very popular subject. All pupils at Key Stage 3 take the subject and around two-thirds of Year 9 pupils opt for GCSE each year. At A-level there are four large sets in each year group. The Department has enjoyed significant examination successes and a number of students each year go on to university to read Geography or related subjects.
Fieldwork is an integral part of our studies. Day or residential trips are arranged for all year groups, and all members of the department take a full part in the planning and running of fieldwork activities.
The Department is housed in a modern building on the School site, is very well resourced and has a departmental office. There are currently four classrooms allocated to the department, each with interactive whiteboard and access to PCs and ipads.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Interested applicants are encouraged to submit a completed application as soon as possible. The School reserves the right to interview and appoint before the closing date, should a suitable candidate present themselves.
The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The School may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants and all applicants will be required to provide details of their online profile, including social media account names/handles, as part of their application.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions on a self-declaration form in advance of attending an interview (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
